Saturday, August 3, 2024 — Gates Open at 5pm — Music starts at 7pm. Bonfire to follow, weather permitting.
These special storytelling concerts will be filmed for DVD and HD release.

Join us for another magical evening of music on our small farm in Ohio. These intimate concerts in the climate-controlled 1870s barn loft have turned into some of the most memorable nights of our 30+ year career.

On these August nights, we’ll be sharing songs and telling the story of the barn raising at Nowhere Else, how our audience came together and helped us restore a historic barn full of hand-hewn beams and farm to turntable dreams. How one of the best listening audiences in the world pitched in and became a community. And the years of foreshadowing: how my father hid musical instruments in the barn loft of his childhood, how Karin and I first met and made music together in a restored barn in Canton, Ohio, and how we left the city far behind to make a new life in the rolling fields of Southwest Ohio.

We’ll be joined by singer-songwriter, Joshua Thomas, who recently recorded his debut full-length album, The Wings Outside, in the barn loft at Nowhere Else. We’re looking forward to some three-part harmonies as well.

Pack a picnic and comfortable walking shoes. We’ll have tables and chairs set up in the barn, and we can spill outside on the deck and enjoy the expansive views as well.

Encircle a prized loved one, or a handful of favorite companions, and come on out. We’ll lift a glass together to all the shared years and miles, tears and smiles.

Festive beverages will be available on site.

Amy Helm and Band ~ Nowhere Else Barn Loft Concert ~ Album Release Show

Friday, September 6, 2024 — Gates Open at 6pm — Music starts at 7:30pm. Bonfire to follow, weather permitting.

We are so excited to host singer and songwriter Amy Helm and her band for a special barn loft concert on the release day of her brand new, forthcoming album, Silver City. This is a meaningful not-to-be-missed evening of music, not only because Amy Helm is  a dynamic songwriter and performer (you may have first heard her in Ollabelle), but also because Levon Helm’s musical barn and storied rambles became part of our inspiration for the 1870s barn restoration at Nowhere Else. Amy now presides over that famous barn, but by some generous impulse of the universe, she will be bringing her band to our barn loft at Nowhere Else for this special evening.

Pack a picnic and comfortable walking shoes. We’ll have tables and chairs set up in the barn, and we can spill outside on the deck and enjoy the expansive views as well.

Festive beverages will be available on site.

Gates open at 6pm. Music starts at 7:30pm. Bonfire to follow, weather permitting.

Hope to see you on the farm!

Hymn Time In The Land Of Abandon

After three-plus decades of recording as Over the Rhine, Linford and Karin revisit and reimagine a collection of old hymns and gospel songs: “Music that we grew up singing, music as present in our formative years as the air we breathed.”

An early review of an advance copy of Hymn Time, the very first Over the Rhine record made in the barn loft at Nowhere Else, offered this succinct summary:

“Truly lovely—spare, sweet and subtle renderings that transform the familiar into something fresh and new.”

May it be so.

Ten Songs Without Words
Linford Detweiler
Solo Piano

Also among the very first recordings from the barn loft: Linford, alone at a piano, playing Ten Songs Without Words.

“From the very first time I sat down at a piano, I discovered that melodies were available. A river of music was already flowing up above me. When I closed my eyes and pressed a few black and white keys, something beyond words would begin to make itself known. It made it difficult not to believe that music was a miracle of some kind or other.”
